The Dream Home Project

The home environment plays a crucial role in the well-being and daily functioning of individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). These neurodevelopment conditions come with unique challenges, and creating a home specifically tailored to address their needs can greatly enhance their quality of life.

You can make an impact.

I am a Father of 2 kids who are both on the spectrum of Autism and ADHD.
My family and I need your support to complete our Home Project. I must admit it's not easy to use GoFundMe. This after all feels taboo and we're taught to never speak about finances/financial problems because it's about pride and possible embarrassment.

Building a home is a lifelong aspiration for many individuals and families. It represents more than just bricks and mortar; it embodies the realization of cherished dreams, cherished memories, and a place to call our own. However, turning this vision into reality requires substantial financial resources that can often be out of reach.

That's why my Family and I are reaching out to generous individuals like You who believe in the power of dreams and the importance of not giving up, and keeping your dream moving forward.

This Dream Home Project aims to create a safe and nurturing environment not just for my kids and I but also for those who are on the Autism and ADHD spectrum.

Autism and ADHD is a complex developmental disorder that affects millions of people worldwide, making it crucial to provide specialized support and resources. This home project will provide that, we believe that everyone deserves a place they can call home, where their unique needs are understood and catered to.

Our home project has been 4 years in the making and is planned to help our kids, but we find ourselves facing a significant funding gap finishing the project. With your support of this campaign, we aim to bridge that gap and bring the project on track to its completion. We also find the need to keep our children involved in the extracurricular activities that help them develop their social and behavioural skills.

Welcome!

Living with Autism & ADHD The Dream Home Project

The Story and progress so far......

Our house was over 65 years old. In recent years the House started taking in water when it rained and caused mold in the basement which emited a musty, earthy odour and was slowly falling apart.

We tried putting a tarp to cover the roof to try and stop rain from coming in, but water still made it into the house.

The house was in bad shape not only was water getting in, but also because of the old pipes the smell of sewage was strong when it rained. The Basement Walls were starting to get moldy and the house was falling apart which and no longer safe to live in.

2019

At the end of 2019 we decided to go on a family vacation. Just before we left we received the diagnosis of ADHD (with a recommendation to assess for Autism) for our son. During our vacation we had to teach our son how to take his medication and explain to him the reason, pros and cons of taking this medication. When we returned we decided that this was the time for us to start our dream home journey. We went to the bank and got our first loan.

2020

One of the significant hurdles we faced was securing sufficient funds to start construction. Another one of the major obstacles was acquiring the necessary permits and adhering to building regulations.

  • The Dream Home Project was put into place and we needed to start Renovations.
  • With all of the wonderful memories attached to our home there was no where else to go, but stay and do the Project (Both of our children were Born inside the house with the help of the midwives.)
  • We sent in our application to get the Building Permit.

  • Received the Building Permit and we were ready to go.
  • COVID - 19 Hits and the World shuts down.

2021

The pandemic is still in full force and now the cost of everything has gone up. Not just the cost of food and necessities, but also building supplies. The original loan we received was not going to be enough. 2021 is also the year our daughter was diagnosed with ADHD and started on medication.

The project was delayed for 3 years.
Until the beginning of September 06 2022.

2022

All our original construction quotes were nearly doubled and it seemed like our dream home project would never come to be. Top2Bottom renovations was referred to us by family. We met with Tony and were immediately drawn to his passion and understanding. He went through the entire process from demolition all the way to the finishing touches of the project in our first meeting. We again had to go to the bank for more funding, but with the costs continuing to rise we still don't have enough. This is also the year our son was diagnosed with Level 1 Autism.

With the Challenges Faced And Progress Made So Far
It took extensive research, countless meetings, and meticulous planning to ensure compliance with all legal requirements.
Another challenge we encountered was sourcing affordable and high-quality materials within our budget constraints. We spent considerable time researching suppliers, comparing prices, and negotiating deals to stretch every dollar as far as possible without compromising on quality.
Despite these obstacles, we have made significant strides in bringing our home project to life.
With the help of our contractor Top2Bottom, the foundation has been laid, walls erected and secured and most importantly a new roof.

We are asking for your help because we are so close to completing The Dream Home Project. We realize It has become more difficult to secure funding with the costs of everything continuing to go up, we just don't have enough to complete it on our own and we need your support.

Every dollar donated will go towards completing the project's interior and all the essential materials like paint, tiles, toilets, shower fixtures, appliances, etc. We also have designated a cozy/calm down corner for our children to use with equipment such as a swing, body sox and other sensory equipment.

Your contribution can make a significant impact, every donation counts towards helping us reach our dream and a home specifically tailored to address their needs can greatly enhance their quality of life.

We are so grateful and appreciate your help.

Thank you,

The Ilao-Sebastian Family
