Support Sheeba's Charitable Legacy

Dear Friends,

We are reaching out on behalf of our incredible cousin, Sheeba Verghese, who lives in Delhi, India. Sheeba has been battling lymphoma these past few years and has undergone a variety of treatments in Delhi and Tamil Nadu. She continues to fight the disease with her loving husband and children by her side. Her husband works in a private company and the medical insurance coverage has been exhausted.  She received CAR T-Cell therapy through loans as no insurance company covers this new treatment in India.  Sheeba is currently on low dose chemotherapy and palliative care. Overall, they have spent about 97 lakhs ($120,000) on medical care and treatment, while also managing the needs of their organization and related projects. The family has expended all of their available resources.

Sheeba has always been called to serve. After college, she trained in non-formal education and supported the refugee community in Delhi, assisting with English language learning and helping them secure resources and build community. Her mission to serve those most in need took her to the slums of Delhi and she organized schools for children who were unable to attend formal schooling.  In response to many parents who asked her for more support for their children, she and her father launched, Ashray Bhavan, a children’s home in Faridabad in 2001. Ashray Bhavan has been a home away from home for 55 children over the years. Asha Bhavan a similar home for underprivileged girls was inaugurated in 2008.  Ashray Bhavan and Asha Bhavan have provided a safe, nurturing space for children to learn and live up to their full potential. Her life has truly been her message - and it has been a story of love, generosity and unwavering dedication to the poor and marginalized.

Other projects she leads include -

1. Ashray Deaf Resource Center - Disability based resource centre where 40 speech and hearing impaired children are educated using Indian Sign Language without any fees. (facebook.com/adrcspin)

2. Refugee Education Center - Educating 65 children in Delhi

3. Non-formal Education Centre - Educating 35 children in the slums of Faridabad.

4. Sponsoring education of other children in need.

This work has been a mission of the entire Verghese family. As they are in a time of need, we reach out on their behalf to request any support you might be able to offer to assist with Sheeba’s medical expenses and other needs.

We all know the ripple effects that one special person can have on our lives. Sheeba has created ripples and waves in the lives of so many people that will be felt for generations to come.
