Wendell’s Warriors
My two-year old nephew, Wendell, was involved in a horrific farm accident on Saturday, July 24th. He sustained significant neck and head injuries. The doctors are saying it is a miracle of God that he is alive. The quick actions of his dad Landon, our Uncle Barry, our friend Bradley, and the Emergency Room team at Conway Regional played a crucial role in what would have been a much different outcome.
Wendell started crashing once he boarded Angel One for Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock, but the transport team angels continued the fight and managed to resuscitate him - thank you simply isn’t enough to express our gratitude and amazement.
The team at ACH could not believe our little boy was alive with such injuries, that he was intubated, and he was stable enough for surgery. They operated on Wendell late Saturday night and made repairs to his trachea, sternocleidomastoid muscle, and carotid artery. He has two fractures at the base of his skull, considerable bruising, and cuts on his chest and arms. The doctors suspect Wendell also suffered a stroke since the left side of his body is significantly weaker than the right, including a swollen left knee. We are waiting on the results from an MRI to determine if there is any damage caused from the short amount of time he was without oxygen. Even though he remains intubated, his breathing has shown improvement.
This is a very delicate situation because the doctors need Wendell’s throat to heal before they start looking into and addressing other injuries. It also means we are managing his prognosis hour by hour and unsure of what to expect long term. We know that he faces a long, uphill, and winding road to recovery, which involves a lengthy hospital stay, physical therapy, and other things that aren’t on our radar right now.
Unfortunately, insurance only covers so much. This fund will help lighten the load with the many out of pocket expenses unpaid by insurance and long-term care costs for Wendell.
My family has completely and unexpectedly been handed a challenge that only God can help us face and conquer, so we ask for your continued support in prayer for Wendell’s strength and healing every day. We believe that your prayers have gotten him this far and greatly appreciate your love and support moving forward.
Wendell’s Warriors unite!
