Wendy Cendejas, a member of our Disney Community, has tragically passed away this weekend. Many of you have worked very closely with Wendy, and know how amazing she is. If you didn't have the opportunity to work with her, let me share a bit about her.
If you saw the email from Tilak, you know that she helped bring “Girls Who Code” to DLR. That, to me, says so much about her heart and her character. A woman who was not only extremely talented as an engineer and a leader in technology, but who also sought to share that skill with others. To not only want that, but to take action and to be part of making it happen.
In addition to all that she gave to the company professionally, her contributions to us all personally were far greater. If you ever had the blessing of working on a project with her, you know that she was a beam of light in every room she entered. A warm smile and kind countenance that eased tension and created space for laughter even in the most stressful of moments. That’s part of why her passing has affected so many, so deeply. She had that way about her. Of connecting people to herself through genuine authenticity, kindness, and the joy she radiated outward onto every team she was a part of. I recall to mind the many times that Wendy and I shared a drink after a long, grueling day during a release while the ease of her conversation stilled whatever stress that day had brought. I know many of you have countess such stories with her.
Those closest to her, her two daughters Sophie and Rylee, and her fiancé Bill, were the ones that got to experience that kindness and sweetness in the most special way. But that also means they will grieve this loss most intensely. As her Disney family, we want to step up to help ease their burden, as Wendy did so often in her own way for all of us.
We want to honor Wendy’s example of taking action as we do our best to be a part of some kind of help for her family. To that end, we’ve established the Wendy Cendejas Memorial Fund to assist her daughters and fiancé while they make this incredibly difficult transition into their new reality.
