My name is Jamie Weibeler and I have created this page for the benefit of a dear friend of mine. Wendy Smith and worked together for 5 years, and I have never met a more kind caring individual in my life. A couple of years ago, Wendy was having severe ear pain and nothing seemed to help. Unfortunately, Wendy was diagnosed with a stage 4 cancer located along the nerve line along the side of her face. Wendy was told at that time that it was a very slow growing cancer. Sadly, less than two years later, the cancer returned and was spreading. The following are Wendy's words on her journey...
"I was diagnosed with stage 4 adenoid cystic carcinoma of my parotid gland in 2016. After 7 weeks of aggressive radiation we were so hopeful that it was gone. Now 2 years later I found out my cancer is spread to my skull base and the lining of my brain which will attack my central nervous system. This cancer is very rare so there is not a lot of research available and no cure and no successful treatment options beyond the radiation . I am no longer able to work and am facing many financial struggles. I just found out that I may be accepted into a clinical trial at Northwestern Medical Center to hopefully slow the cancer down but I will need to go to Illinois for treatment so Scott will need to miss work to take me for treatments".
Scott is Wendy's devoted husband. Wendy is also surrounded by a loving supportive family.
Current Situation: Wendy is still awaiting acceptance into the clinical trial program. Insurance will not cover any of this treatment because it is a clinical trail. This trial is very promising and may have the ability to slow the cancer to a point that Wendy can be with her family for many many years to come.
This is where we need your help. Wendy's medical bills are mounting and are likely to increase exponentially with the new treatments.
