Wendy vs. Cancer - Round 2

Donation protected
It was almost two years ago that the Kurylowicz family faced the spectre of cancer in their family.
Wendy got the diagnosis of stage 4 cervical cancer and her husband Mike and their two young children Ethan (6 yrs old) and Mia (4 yrs old) were by her side supporting her all the way.   With their help, all her tests showed no signs of cancer following last year’s chemo and radiation treatments!

Unfortunately, during one of Wendy’s follow up appointments she received some bad news, indicating the underlying cancer was not affected by the treatments and was never gone. On November 13, Wendy shared this with us on Facebook:

“I'm very blessed to have amazing support in my life.
I just received a cancer update. Although chemo did an amazing job getting all the tumors it did not kill off the underlying microscopic cancer cells.
So part two of my journey begins.
No chemo or radiation this time as it's not the "cure" for me.
Major surgery to remove the cancer is the plan.
Which means I'll lose quite a bit of my insides including but not limited to my bladder.
All this craziness will be happening within the next couple of months.
There's still that bright light shining . . . And with the awesome support I have it will shine brighter each day”

So once more, the family must rally to help Wendy fight this cancer again.  We are fortunate to have a great medical system, however the tedious tragedy is that while it covers the medical care, it doesn’t cover the ancillary costs that go with such a diagnosis.  It doesn’t cover mundane things like hospital parking, fast food while on the road, and lost wages since Wendy had to quit her job.  To make matter worse, Mike has been laid off as well which creates an even greater monthly shortfall until he gets back to work.  They expect this shortfall to be over $1000 per month which can add up very quickly.

Since Wendy was only working part time for a short eight weeks she does not qualify for EI. She does not qualify for any government assistance such as disability or Welfare either.  Which means this family of four with two small children will be battling this cancer on Mike’s EI alone.

This GoFundMe campaign has been set up to help the Kurylowicz family make it through this difficult time.  Any support that can be offered to the family will go a long way to helping them focus on recovery without the stress of a mounting medical debt.  If you prefer to make your donation offline to save the service fees or for any other reason, you can send a private message to this campaign or contact the family directly for alternate options.

Please note that any donations over and above their immediate financial needs will be paid forward to the Juravinski  Hospital and Cancer Center Foundation  and the Wellwood  organization in Hamilton, where Wendy has received all her amazing care on her journey. It will go to help other families facing similar challenges. (Please click the links for more information)

Thank you so much for your support, financial or otherwise.  It will go a long way to help the family through yet another difficult and life-changing challenge.
