Wendy...to know her is to love her! Always up for an adventure, quick with her infectious laugh, enjoying life to the fullest. Wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend.
This Spring, Wendy had given her letter of resignation after 5 years at Ridgway Secondary School in Colorado to take a long-planned and greatly anticipated sailing trip of a lifetime with her husband and daughter.
However, on May 11th, after a mammogram, an ultrasound, a biopsy, and a CT scan, Wendy was diagnosed with Stage IV Breast Cancer. She tested positive for bone cancer in her left hip and the cancer has metastasized to her lungs as well.
Wendy had surgery for her port placement and has already had 3 chemotherapy's. She's being treated with Perjeta, Herceptin and Taxotere, along with a shot of Neulasta the day following chemo. She also had 10 radiation treatments on her hip to remove the cancer that had spread to her hip bone. She will have another CT scan on July 21st to see how well the treatment has worked so far. She has 3 chemo's left after that, with 3 weeks in between each.
Since Wendy had already resigned her position, she now has to pay over $500 a month for Cobra in order to stay covered by her insurance. Insurance pays 80% and she will pay 20% for her medical expenses, up to a certain amount.
Wendy is approaching her cancer fight with her usual determination & positivity. Let's do what we can to relieve finanical pressure so that she can put all her attention, energy, and focus to this battle.
