Wenonah Planting Fund

"In 1888 the land company deeded to the Borough Commission the square in front of the hotel between Clinton and West Jersey Avenues, with the provision that the same should always be maintained as a public park for the inhabitants of Wenonah." This is a quotation from "Wenonah Background" written by Constance Cowell. The square has been faithfully maintained as a park by the people of Wenonah and various improvements have been made over the years. Wenonah has been named "Tree City USA" for over 25 years and is known for its tree-lined streets and conservation areas.
On September 1, 2021, an EF3 tornado ripped through 12 miles of South Jersey, with a direct hit on our small town. Homes were damaged, families displaced, and so many of our beautiful trees were demolished by this unforeseen weather phenomenon.
I was searching for a way to help my town of Wenonah, a town that holds so many heartwarming memories for all of its residents, past and present, a town that has been so good to my family and me for over 30 years. I have felt compelled to do something more to enable our community to come together to aid the Borough and volunteer commissions by creating a Go Fund Me account: The Wenonah Planting Fund. The donations received here will be utilized as funding to various entities working with the Borough's commissions (i.e. Environmental and Shade Tree Commissions) to help supplement with the plantings and recovery of Wenonah's park and clear spaces.
It is my hope that residents, former residents and friends share my eagerness to give back and would like to help by making a donation to the Wenonah Planting Fund.
In order to reach the fundraising goal of $55,000, it will truly take a village! Please spread the word and share the website. A gift of any amount contributed will make a difference!
There are also opportunities for families to donate a specific planting along with a plaque. You may do so by making the arrangements with the Borough of Wenonah office.
Together, let’s make a difference for the future of Wenonah.
Thank you.
