We're Building Larrie a House!

After her mobile home tragically burnt to the ground at the end of last year, Larrie has searched every avenue for providing shelter for her family. She owns the acre and half in Sun Valley that her home sat upon, but the market for all lower-cost housing options (i.e. mobile homes, manufactured homes, etc) has skyrocketed amidst a crunched housing market. At 65, Larrie was planning to retire soon, as she's been working for Washoe County and the City of Reno for the last 38 years. Those hopes have been dashed as she's discovered how intensely expensive it would be to carry a loan for even the simplest mobile home. And since mobile homes become un-insurable after they are about 20 years old (which is what happened to Larrie's burned home), she could face the same difficult situation she's in now if the notoriously faulty wiring of mobile homes, or any other reason, caused her home to be ruined again.

Larrie is the matriarch of her large family, caring for her relatives as a primary provider and being known as the rock her grandkids can turn to in times of need. Despite the many adversities life has thrown her way, Larrie is steady in finding her footing and the bright side of things. Larrie has been a friendly and helpful steward of our market's community since we began 5 years ago, and we have seen her compassion and unwavering virtue first-hand. The truth is that a gift to Larrie means a gift to everyone Larrie will encounter. She is incredibly hard-working, generous, and the kind of friend and neighbor every community wishes for. And now, Larrie could use our help.

Our goal with this campaign is to turn Larrie's tragic journey of losing her home into a tale of triumph and community care. Combined with volunteered skills and labor, we will use these funds to help source the materials needed to build Larrie a home—one she can insure and cherish forever.
