Westchester Science & Engineering Fair 2020

Tax deductible
Dear WESEF Parents, Friends and Former Participants,

We would like to start by wishing you a Happy New Year! With the calendar switching over to 2020, it's only fitting that the Westchester and Putnam Science and Engineering Fair is preparing for their 20th annual science fair. This year's fair is shaping up to be the biggest one yet, with WESEF preparing to host nearly 700 participants from over 40 high schools throughout our region! It is so exciting to be able to bring this opportunity to so many aspiring young scientists, therapists, and engineers.

In order for us to continue providing this type of experience for students, we’d like to ask YOU to become a part of the growing community that supports this exciting STEM event which affords local students international opportunities.

If you have previous experience as a parent involved with WESEF or as a participant, you are in the unique position to understand exactly how an experience like this can propel a student to achieve things they didn’t think possible.  Designing, completing, preparing, and presenting research is unlike any other high school experience. Even if students do not end up continuing in a STEM related field, the skills that are developed through this type of long term project are indispensable in any profession.

This experience, the awards, the opportunities… ALL of it… exist due to the financial support of a community of alumni, parents, and STEM advocates.  Thanks to the continued tremendous financial support over the past nineteen years, WESEF has been able to grow from 59 participants in 2001 to nearly 700 participants in 2020.

All funds will be used to help support the many expenses that are involved in running a dual countywide science fair for hundreds of students and sending the finalists to represent our region at international science fairs.  For example, WESEF provides all of the 700 students and 350 professional judges with lunch, and an exciting awards ceremony.  In addition, over 50% of the students are recognized, often with monetary awards, and the student finalists, their mentors, teachers, and parents are honored at a celebration banquet.  These are just a few examples of the many services that WESEF provides for the high school students of Westchester and Putnam STEM community.

We are always looking to continue our growth and provide even more opportunities to aspiring research scientists, engineers, mathematicians, medical and mental health professionals. Due to the support and generosity in the past, we were able to take nearly 100 students to the International GENIUS Olympiad in upstate New York last year. We are also very excited to announce that WESEF will be taking 20 projects to ISEF this year (up from 15 projects)!! In order to continue achieve our goal of providing more of these opportunities, we need you to be a part of it!

This Annual WESEF Fundraising Campaign will last until the day of WESEF 2020 and our goal is to raise a minimum of $25,000.

WESEF 2020 will be on Saturday, March 21st at Sleepy Hollow High School. More details can be found at www.WESEF.org.
