It's now been 2months since we lost our precious beautiful Wesley. Christmas is here and we don't want it to be. We are trying to put on a smile and strength for Maddie (Wesley sister) . Thank you to the ones who have reached out to help Santa Claus. This old Nana has a very heavy heart y'all. TJ and Hollie have not been able to return to work and it's really getting extremely hard on them. Please please keep them in your prayers
We are coming to you with very heavy hearts with an update about Wesley's condition. I will first tell you that Wesley is the 6-year-old son of TJ and Hollie Gossett, and little brother to his sister Maddie Gossett, Grandson of Tiffen and Linda Gossett, Jerry Quinn and Sharon Quinn. He was a first-grade student at Chesnee Elementary and played little league sports in dist 3 where both of his parents attended school and high school. He loved football, basketball, baseball, and anything fast, motorcycles and four-wheelers. His smile was infectious. He loved superheroes and Spiderman.
Last week Wesley was fine being his sweet loving and adventurous self. Wednesday evening, he had a slight headache and some nausea. As any other parents would have done, Hollie and TJ comforted their sweet boy and made the decision to see how he was the next morning. Children have simple tummy aches and viruses all the time and this seemed nothing out of the ordinary. They tucked their sweet boy in bed for the night. Checking on him as he slept throughout the night. On Thursday morning, awaking as normal to start their day. When they went to wake Wesley, panic set in as Wesley was unresponsive and not ok. They rushed him to Spartanburg Regional and he began having seizures as well and remained in a lethargic mostly unresponsive state. He had a high fever as well and was ultimately diagnosed with Spinal Meningitis. The medical team started all the treatments needed and explained that it was very serious but with all the measures hopefully things would turn around with time, but it would be a long road ahead. As the night went own the medical team came and explained that Wesley's condition was taking a more serious turn and he was having neurological changes as well, from all of the swelling and damage being done by the inflammation and infection around his brain and spinal cord. While his parents were at the bedside with the doctor explaining things to them, the parents and grandparents actually witnessed Wesley code at this time. They quickly got him back, stabilized him and placed him on a ventilator. At this time the Greenville Children's Hospital was contacted and arrangements were made to transfer him to Greenville. The Children's hospital did a full assessment and multiple tests to make sure nothing was being overlooked to give him the best care possible. Friday morning was the first morning that the family was told there was no signs of brain activity, that the ventilator was keeping him alive. It was only a little over 24 hours of illness. Tragically this happened so extremely fast, his family has been left distraught. The medical team said they would continue to monitor and recheck over the next 2 days, each morning. and each morning they have been told the same thing. Yesterday Wesley's parent decided to give a gift of life to many other families. Wesley always wanted to be a superhero. And now he will be just that. Wesley's family decided to donate his organ so that so many other families may not have to endure what they are. Tomorrow we will be doing a hero walk and would invite anyone that wants to come to please come and join us when we say goodbye. The following days will be difficult as we plan memorial services and burial plans for Welsey. TJ and Hollie have not left their sweet boy's side and will not until the very last moment. They are very appreciative of all of the prayers, thoughts, and kind words and actions the extended family and community have shown during this time. Please continue to pray for this sweet family.
