The McDougall Creek Fire is an ongoing wildfire in the Okanagan region of British Columbia, Canada. It reached West Kelowna's Residential areas on August 17, 2023 .The wildfire has forced the evacuation of West Kelowna and parts of Kelowna.
Overall, at least 35,000 people were under evacuation order and another 30,000 under evacuation alert, as of August 19.
The wildfire is being fueled by a constant wind and extreme drought conditions. The wildfire is currently estimated to be at 11,000 hectares in size. Unfortunately during the first 3 days of this tragic devastating event many people lost their homes in our community + surrounding communities. The total of structures lost in West Kelowna alone as of August 21st , 2023 is upwards of 50, but the worst hit areas are yet to be counted.
The West Kelowna firefighters charitable society is raising money to help people in our community and surrounding communities on the west side who have been affected by the devastating McDougall Creek Fire.
