Grand Rapids Rescue Fund for Restaurant Job Loss

Due to the government mandate for sit down restaurants to virtually close down in Michigan (and other states too), there are enormous layoffs, impacting the economy and individual lives much more than we can fully know at this time.
It is important to know that many of those that work in restaurants across the state (and country) are workers who might not be able to receive unemployment income. This is for various reasons, but a major reason is because the restaurant industry utilizes employment of many undocumented individuals.
This post is tapping into topics that are widely undiscussed. There are many topics surfacing that many individuals do not like to acknowledge, let alone converse about and support.
This Go Fund Me is completely designated for these situations: people that cannot get unemployment and have literally no offset for being laid off from their respective restaurants, because of lack of documentation, immigration status, etc. For this reason, this campaign is sensitive and wanting to avoid naming people, businesses, etc. to take care to protect individuals and families.
The backbone of restaurants across the country and the world is the kitchen/the back of house/the heart of house/those people that reap very little benefit for the difficult and under-compensated work of the restaurant industry, especially in kitchens.
Calling for any and all individuals of Grand Rapids, the broader West Michigan and beyond to contribute to those completely leveled by the spread and government mandates of COVID-19.
We DO NOT want to oppose initiatives protecting the greater population and reducing the spread of the virus in terms of isolation and social distancing. The ceasing of the restaurant industry helps tremendously with these causes preventing large social gatherings. The goal is to support those completely hitting rock bottom with these circumstances (i.e. the instant lack of work, living paycheck to paycheck, the inability to access unemployment or government emergency funds, etc).
PLEASE Michiganders and others: Consider providing to this fund. This is being funneled towards the voiceless individuals in dire need of immediate financial support - those who cannot gain government assistance EVER or anytime soon. This fund will be dispersed towards those in positions of need that the government cannot reach. Please help.
If you love your local restaurants, please be aware of who and what happens in the background to make your experiences what they have been. The need is immediate. The need is for more quickness than government or other initiatives can even provide.
$15,000 is our goal, and if a greater amount is achieved it would only increase the scope of who we are able to assist. PLEASE HELP these people who may be voiceless and faceless to you and who might not have any other option at this time.
**A few restaurant employees and I are in contact and working with a growing group of undocumented restaurant workers at this time. We are thoroughly and constantly assessing urgent needs that are not being met by the government or other organizations at this time, such as impending bills and grocery expenses for families.
**We are also trying to expand our network of contacts to involve more local restaurants in order to grow the amount of needs met, as the campaign grows.
