24-hour safe space for WPG West End
One year ago Tina Fontaine was taken from the West End and murdered. Residents said enough. and began working to create a 24-hour space for youth.
Today there is no safe place for youth in Winnipeg's West End to go at night. When youth are in crisis, they can't wait until the next day. A 24-hour space would bridge that gap and help them when they need it most.
HELP US START A 24-HOUR SPACE FOR YOUTH.
We have a plan and funding proposal completed, and are working towards funding from the city, province, and private sources, but the community is tired of waiting.
We've decided to create this GoFundMe to give people an opportunity to show they support this much-needed idea.
Please show your support and donate what you can!
$25,000 will fund an Elder/Grandmother position and a youth position at the safe space for one year.
This will ensure the loving guidance of an Elder/Grandmother is present overnight and youth will have mentors they can relate to and get the support they need.
When youth can't go home - when they are in crisis or being exploited - they can't wait until morning. Such youth have told us they end up going to unsafe places where they are vulnerable to gangs, drugs, sexual exploitation and other harm. This is why a 24-hour space is needed.
Together we can make this happen and offer children and youth on the street at night a safe place with compassion & resources to keep them on a good path.
HELP MAKE THE DREAM OF A SAFER WEST END FOR THOSE WHO NEED IT MOST A REALITY!
We are a grass-roots community movement comprised of residents, concerned Winnipeggers and West End agencies.
Every donation not only supports the fundraising goal, but shows our youth that we want them to be safe, 24 hours a day.
THANK YOU!
