Westlands Affordable Housing for Seniors Flood

On Tuesday, October 18, 2022, a sprinkler pipe on the second floor of the Westlands Non-Profit Affordable Housing for Seniors Complex burst, flooding nearly every one of the 36 units. Forty-two seniors, many with mobility and other health concerns, are now displaced. Residents were able to gather their medications and some clothing before the building was deemed temporarily uninhabitable. It is unclear at this time when residents will be able to return but not likely until 2023.

While most of the residents have insurance, it will be weeks before they can access funds, while a few cannot afford insurance at all. Sparling United Church, the Keewatin Inkster Neighbourhood Resource Council for Seniors and the Brooklands Active Living Centre have stepped in to answer the call for help. They are assisting the most vulnerable residents with hotel, food and other basic needs, including long-term care, moving costs, and pet sheltering. This help has been out of pocket, and the church is now asking the public to assist. At this time, the most urgent need is financial support to continue helping those who need it most.

Please consider donating directly to the church via our Go Fund Me. Funds raised will go directly to the Church to be used with the utmost of care and consideration. Every donor will receive tax receipts from PPGF Canada.

Thank you for taking the time to consider how you can help.
