For as long as I can remember, I have struggled with my weight, I have only seen pictures of myself not being overweight, and I was maybe 4 or 5 years old. I was a very active child and, likewise, in my teen years. I wrestled and played football but was never able to get the weight under control.
This bled into adulthood.
I have been very fortunate to not have the many repercussions others have to endure with the level of obesity I am living with. While it is easy for others to say "diet and exercise," that is not always the solution. I would not be taking such extreme measures if other means had worked. I have had micro successes along the way through diet and exercise, but the battle is far more than eating salad and walking.
As mentioned in the video, there is an urgency for me. The current medical staff is watching my every move and ensuring I am on par with what they need to do. I have a solid mental and emotional support system surrounding me.
I know this will seem like a haste decision for some, but for me, this has been years in the making. I have been leaning toward this since 2006 but went many other directions. Even when I moved to Shreveport, there was an opportunity starting to bud for surgery, but that was not the time.
Every dollar helps. The amount needed to raise is estimated. The total depends on how everything in surgery and at the hospital goes and when flights are purchased.
