Westley's (Slip's) Gender Affirming Surgery Fund
Donation protected
Heya kind humans! This is Westley/Slip requesting your assistance while I am recovering from a gender affirming procedure in July. I am currently homeless and have secured housing but will need a bit of assistance while I am recovering and off of the road.
Let me tell you a little bit about myself. I am a Black trans person who uses he/they pronouns. I began my medical transition two years ago and will be receiving my hysterectomy on July 9th. I have been in and out of homelessness since I turned 18, which is when I initially got kicked out of my family home. Since then my family has come around a lot, but I have always struggled with maintaining steady income and in turn struggled with housing. I have been living out of my van for nearly a year and make most of my money while traveling or while in Slab City, so needing to recover while being housed up is going to be a serious financial strain. It's hard to fly a sign when you are recovering from having an organ removed.
The total recovery time for a hysterectomy ranges from 8 to 12 weeks and during that time I am required to stay in a home that has gas, electric, and plumbing, so living my traveling lifestyle isn't much of an option.
I am needing about $3500 total to ensure I will be able to be financially stable while recovering from this life changing surgery. This will cover the cost of my copays for the pre-OP appointment, the surgery and anesthesia, and the post-OP appointments, aswell as ensure that I am able to afford necessities like medication, food, items for recovery, and be able to afford to stay housed up for up to 3 months in San Diego.
This year has been one of the most challenging years I have faced yet. I have faced a lot of anti-blackness and transphobia through out my time traveling which has led to a lot of emotional and psychological strain and trauma. Being thrust back into an environment that is inherently less safe for Black trans people while I am recovering from surgery is not an option.
Community support and solidarity have gotten me this far in my journey and I would genuinely appreciate your help and support in ensuring a safe recovery. If you are able to donate please give what you are able to! If you are unable to make a financial donation please help by sharing this on as many of your social media platforms as possible. Getting visibility to willing donors is one of the biggest hurdles when starting a GoFundMe, so each share helps this fundraiser become more widespread and visible.
Donations can also be made directly to my cash app $purplepup13 and venmo @purple-pup if you prefer to leave third party donation sites out of the equation.
Thank you so much for your time and support, I wouldn't be at this point in life without your kindness and help. I have had so many giving, gracious people help me at so many points in my life and I feel fortunate that I have this kind of community support. Having a solid community is a privilege in and of itself and I am forever grateful that I have people like y'all in my life.
