Seeking your help to fund our hockey pitch

To all our members and supporters

Weston Hockey Club was founded in 1943 and is celebrating its 80th birthday next year. Our youth section currently has 270 members with 11 teams competing in the junior Leinster leagues. In our senior section, we have four senior women’s teams and 2 senior men’s teams competing in Leinster leagues.

We also pride ourselves in facilitating four local schools (and growing) in playing on our pitch free of charge.

In collaboration with Hockey Ireland, Weston HC coaches have

been visiting local primary schools for the past 7 years through the Tricks 4 Sticks program. Many children have no prior knowledge of field hockey, and the scheme enables us to develop hockey within the locality.

Due to the success of our club, the hockey pitch and facilities are in constant use throughout the year. Therefore, in order for us to continue to provide our members and the local community with the facilities they require to enjoy, develop and excel at sport, we need to reinvest in our facilities.

We are embarking on an important development project to resurface and refurbish the hockey pitch at the club. Synthetic playing surfaces typically have an optimal lifespan of around 10 years, and while the club has maintained the pitch since it was last refurbished in 2007, it is now badly in need of replacement. Our aim is to commence the refurbishment in March/April 2023 and we need your support to make this happen.

The overall cost of the project is estimated to be in the region of €300,000. Last year, we secured a Sports Ireland Grant for €150,000 and we therefore, need to make up the shortfall of €150,000. We aim to do this through our pitch fund and various fundraising events throughout the year. We are launching our fundraising campaign by establishing this Go Fund Me Page.
