My Son Weston was diagnosed with severe scoliosis as a newborn. Due to malpractice, Weston was set back on treatment for a year and his scoliosis progressed to over 50 degrees. (usually results in surgery). After taking research into my own hands I found his current Orthopedic Surgeon who was devastated at Weston's condition. We decided to try the brace for as long as we can to prevent Further Progression and try as many things as we can before we think about Surgery.
After we found our Doctor, He requested an MRI to find what may be causing the scoliosis. Soon after the MRI They diagnosed Weston with a Nuerological Brain Disorder, Chiari Malformation I. Chiari is a chronic illness and effects everyone differently. There is no cure for this disorder but patients can have decompression brain surgery to help alleviate symptoms. (which doesnt always help). We are now realizing how much his disabilities do affect him and we are going into further research and testing to get help. We want to make his life easier as well as ours.
Weston did have Decompression sugery May 1st, 2014. We know it has helped him from being in constant pain. He still has really bad days and acts out.
