Westport Fisherman loses livelihood & home at sea

Donation protected
This morning my brother Matt Finley and his crew left the Westport dock with f/v Terry F loaded with crab pots to finally begin the crab season. The weather was terrible on the ocean and as the boat rocked the pots began to shift, eventually the railing broke loose and the heavy weight of the pots tipped the boat. The fishing vessel began taking on water and sinking. Matt was able to call for help, the Coast Guard was there quickly and the 3 men put on their survival suits in preparation of getting in the water to be rescued.

I am tearful writing this with the thoughts of how things could have gone. I am thankful that my brother, his two crewmen, and his dog were all rescued. The fishing vessel is a loss...it was Matt's livelihood and his home. All of his belongings were on the boat, he has the clothes on his back. While he is trying to sort out all of the steps he needs to take I know that he is needs some help right now. There is barely enough insurance to make a dent in the expenses and far from enough to make him whole. I am heartbroken for my brother and want to do anything I can! We thank you for any donations to help him get through this devistating time.

Matt has been fishing since he was in high school, so around 25 years. Fishing is what he loves!
