WeVideo For Online Classroom!
Donation protected
Hi all!
A big part of my courses is a group project in which students work together on "solving" an environmental topic. They choose their own topic which ranges from makeup to cigarette butts to dams to anything in between and commit to major research first. Then they design a way to engage the public and get people to take action. This project used to be done in person and now with the movement to online learning, I've shifted it to online! This past Spring I got our school free trial access to a program called WeVideo to do our group projects. It's basically like a google doc for editing videos! That way students can collaborate on the project online and edit the video together. I have not found another appropriate software that allows this.
WeVideo also allows the teacher to go in and monitor all the projects so I was able to check in with the students weekly and make sure they were moving forward, the same way we would do in person.
Their final videos came out great and I was proud of their efforts!
Now... the free trial is over and I'm trying to find a way to fund WeVideo for my courses for Summer and Fall 2020 and Spring 2021. This tool is a needed way to allow students to complete a group video project successfully. A big part of environmental biology is communication. If we can't learn how to research, design and then ultimately share our knowledge, how much change in this world can we make?
WeVideo gives students the ability to record directly on the software as well. This tool is a great resource for all students to tinker with and learn. They can then put it on their resumes and learning about technology is great for their futures!
WeVideo is charged by the year and by the number of students. For the next year I will need roughly $2500 to cover the costs of my classes. Please help me design the best possible courses I can for my students for the next year and donate a few bucks!
I will make sure to get approval from my students to allow me to post their final products on social media and will share their work with all of you!
Please invest in their future!
Thank you so much!
