Every Child Deserves Art
As Giving Tuesday (November 28, 2017) approaches the Ponderosa Elementary PTA is seeking support for funding the Art in Action program. Funds raised would help this wonderful art program in the following ways:
* Pay for the annual Art in Action license
* Replenish and update the art supplies required
* Support the annual Ponderosa art show
* Offer additional art support to our wonderful teaching staff
Ponderosa Elementary School is a California Public K-5 school located in South San Francisco, California. We have approximately 400 young budding artists that benefit from the Art in Action (AIA) program. This parent taught program is a discipline-based, sequential art curriculum designed around the works of the great masters such as Renior, Monet, Pollack and Van Gogh just to name a few. The curriculum comprises 12 lessons each year for grades K-5. The Art in Action program is aligned with California and National Academic Standards for Visual Arts and integrated with other elements of the core curriculum.
This program is unique in that it is taught by 2-3 parent volunteers 1-2 times per month. The curriculum is fun to learn and easy to teach, even for non-artists and non-teachers. The student’s especially love the days they get to have Art in Action because the lessons are taught by parents! Their faces light up when they see either their own or a fellow student’s parent or family member at the front of the classroom teaching a lesson.
Art in Action not only provides an exposure to the arts, it helps students develop self-esteem, confidence, improved academic performance, focus and collaboration. We hope you’ll consider donating to help fund this much needed program! If you would like to learn more about Art in Action you can find information on their website (www.artinaction.org).
