Debra Archer's Medical Fund

Hello all, I am starting this fund for my mother, Debra Archer.  For years now she has had problems with her stomach.  This past February she was hospitalized twice in 3 weeks for severe anemia caused by an internal bleed.  She received blood transfusions both times.  She's had 2 iron infusions in the last month to get her body to make it's own red blood cells.  A doctor at Oconee Medical pushed and finally got my mother in to see a GI specialist and they found a mass on her small intestine.  Said it should be easy enough to remove.  They sent her for a procedure to mark the mass so the surgeon could find it easier and discovered her small intestine was horribly twisted and folded over on itself.  So they decided to do a "capsule study".  They had her swallow a pill with a camera inside it.  The goal was for this to get stuck at the twist and they would be able to remove the twist and the mass all at once.  Two days before the surgery was to take place I had to rush my mother into the ER.  She was in excruciating pain.  They admitted her and managed her pain until the day of the surgery.  Unfortunately it did not go as planned.  When they went in they discovered her belly is full of cancer.  Appendiceal cancer to be exact.  It is very rare.  Last night my mother had surgery to remove the twist, which had become a full blockage at this point.  They took 7+ inches of her small intestine, her right colon and appendix, and her omentum.  They have not removed it all.  My mother will require more surgery to completely remove all of the cancer.  She will also need chemotherapy.

 At this point we do not know how long she will be in the hospital.  What we do know is she has been unable to work for better than a month because of her illness and will likely be out even longer.  Anyone who knows my mother knows how proud she is and she would hate to ask for help.  But we are beyond pride.  Her medical bills are going to be large.  She stands to lose her health insurance at the end of the year due to the requirement her employer has, she has to work so many hours a year to maintain health insurance.   She will likely need continued care to get her strength back up.  We also have the issue of her living expenses.  While my mother has the worlds most understanding landlord alive, we will need to pay her bills at sometime.
