Eli's "Eagle Eyes"
Donation protected
Our son, Eli, will be 6 years old next month. Eli was born with a genetic disorder called Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia. Due to this, Eli is unable to verbally speak and has great difficulty moving. Eli is a happy child, but I know it must be frustrating to feel "trapped" inside a body that doesn't do as you want. We believe Eli to be a very bright child. He is so observant and takes in everything around him. Thanks to Eli's grandmother, "Grams", we were recently introduced to an amazing piece of technology called EagleEyes developed by professor James Gips at Boston College. Grams saw a TV commerical (and gives full credit to God for showing it to her) advertising EagleEyes on a show called Turning Point. She immediatly recorded the program and later shared it with us. Our eyes filled with tears as we watched other children in a similar predicament as Eli, using EagleEyes. Using this system, electrodes were connected around the child's eyes. The electrodes in turn were connected to a computer. The children's eye movement acted as the computer mouse on the screen and the children were able to manipulate and control activites and games on the computer. They were independently playing for the FIRST time!! As soon as I saw the video, I immediatly went home and applied for EagleEyes for Eli. The very next day, I recieved a call from the Executive Director and Founder of The Opportunity Foundation of America, Debbie Inkley. She and I talked about this wonderful technology and felt it was a perfect fit for Eli. To purchase the EagleEyes system
and bring a trainer out to our home for 3 days this summer, it will cost $2,200. We are excited for this new opportunity for our son and are very thankful for any and all donations made.
