Wheelchair Accessible Home for Alan

Donation protected
This past February our dad, Alan, underwent back surgery to repair breaks and infections in his spine. The doctors had to fuse part of his spine. Dad remained in the hospital until March, when he was moved to a rehabilitation center. He has been at the center since then (approximately 3 months), where he has been working hard so that he can eventually regain the use of his legs. Although he has made excellent progress, the recovery process will be a long one, and Dad remains in a wheelchair. After all this time we would love for Dad to be able to move back home. Unfortunately, our family home is not wheelchair accessible. The specific modifications required to make our house wheelchair accessible will be costly. Modifications are necessary not only so that Dad can get home, but to ensure that he can continue to access the supports and services necessary to his recovery. This is also a time-sensitive situation, as any modifications must meet certain criteria before Dad is able to return home. In order for him to leave the center by July 1st (for billing purposes), all funding for modifications is needed by mid-June. We have explored other possible resources- government agencies, Medicaid, etc.- but have run out of options. We are asking family, friends, and anyone who is able, to help us get Dad home, where he can be with his family, regain his independence, and continue on the road to recovery.
