Wheelchair Conversion Van for Myra

Hi my name is Myra. On April 25, 2023 I walked into a surgery and woke up paraplegic! Since that day it has been a struggle trying to regain my mobility and work towards my independence again.

Currently my greatest need that I am desperate for is TRANSPORTATION. A special vehicle modified for a paraplegic to operate so I can take myself to the doctor appointments.

What about public transportation for the elderly and disabled you ask? Well the “system” has let me down and Gaston County Access has denied me any out of county transportation because I have private health insurance and not Medicaid. The problem is, most all of my doctors and physical therapy is *out of the county and in Mecklenburg which Gaston Co. ACCESS will not take me to. That leaves me stuck house bound unless someone volunteers to take me to an appointment. As you can imagine this puts tremendous stress on me constantly trying to figure out and asking for rides.

Now, post SCI I require physical therapy 2X a week and unable to drive the vehicle I had before I was paralyzed.

At this time I rely heavily on volunteer rides from family, friends, and from 2 non-profit agencies that have agreed to give me rides for a *limited time which I cannot rely on long term.

With that being said there is a DESPERATE need for my own transportation to get myself back and forth to these appointments.

Since being paraplegic, I can no longer operate a regular vehicle and now must use a modified one. The type of vehicle I need is a conversion van equipped with a ramp, transfer seat, and hand controls. This is the vehicle I am trying to raise money to purchase. These vehicles are not cheap and unfortunately are almost twice the cost of normal transportation that most people use.

Without the ability to obtain transportation I am house bound unless someone volunteers to give me a ride.

So I’m asking if my friends and family can all ban together and help me raise money for this special conversion van. Any and every bit helps.
