Power Wheelchair Fund for Mom Diagnosed with ALS
Donation protected
My mom, Dianna, was diagnosed with ALS (What is ALS? )in June of this year, shortly after her 60th birthday . It was a devastating blow to our family. Her symptoms started last year around April/May. In that short time frame, she had seen a myriad of physical therapists, doctors and specialists, had blood tests, a spinal tap, nerve conduction tests, been studied by the Mayo Clinic, was told she had a rare auto immune disease that was causing her polyneuropathy, had multiple claims denied by the insurance to get immunoglobulin transfusions, finally was able to appeal the decision and got infusions every month for 6 hours a day only to be misdiagnosed and needing to switch all medications.
Almost a year and half later, my mom cannot walk anymore ,and soon too, her ability to talk. It is truly heartbreaking to see her deteriorating and being trapped in her own body. The bills are piling up and the stress is palpable. I want to be able to help in some small way, to lessen the load, and not to have the burden of financial stress hanging over anyone’s head.
After months of needing a wheelchair she was finally approved to get one. These specific power chairs have multiple functions and capabilities and the cost ranges from $20,000 to $40,000. The insurance will usually cover a fairly good portion but the amount out of pocket is still outrageous.
If you walked today, thank God.
If you got dressed by yourself today, thank God.
If you can drive yourself wherever you want to go, thank God.
If you can say “I love you” to those you care about, thank God.
Thank you for considering a donation to help pay for her power wheelchair. I thank God for each one of you!
