Wheelchair Repairs
Donation protected
My name is Elizabeth Rooney.
For the last 31 years I have spent every waking hour sitting in a wheelchair because of a senseless domestic violence assault which left me with a broken neck and killed my children.
I am currently not eligible for a new wheelchair by insurance standards, but the chair I am in is no longer covered by warranty and is in need of serious repairs. Without new tires, batteries and a new controller, the chair isn't likely going to last much more than another month or two.
Without my chair, life comes to an abrupt halt as I am totally dependant on my chair and otherwise bed bound. Living on an income of just $880.00 per month in California takes some serious creativity just to cover rent and utilities and maybe a few groceries if the utility bills are low enough. There is no way I can manage to fix this chair, but without it my life sort of stops. I know 4500.00 seems like a lot, but just the electronic controller alone is going to cost 3200.00.
Wheelchair manufacturers have those who depend on chairs between a rock and a hard place, because they can make these horrid high prices knowing we have no choice but to pay them or lose mobility.
I will sincerely appreciate each and every penny I am able to collect towards the goal of fixing my chair so I can maintain some semblence of a normal life. Thank you in advance for your help.
