Wheelchair van for Gage
Donation protected
This sweet little boy you see is Gage. He is currently 12 years old and was diagnosed with a rare chromosome disorder called Trisomy 13, a seizure disorder called LGS and also suffers from Cerebral Palsy. Gage has a magnetic personality and an incredible fighting spirit. He has beaten the odds by surviving well past what doctors believed his life expenctancy to be. Because he suffers from significant physical challenges along with developmental disabilities, Gage requires a wheelchair for transportation. For over a decade we have gotten Gage in and out of homes, schools, therapies and appointments by picking him up and carrying him. His wheelchair also has to be picked up to be loaded and unloaded as well. The bigger Gage is getting, the bigger his equipment is getting, and that is making it more difficult for me to load and unload every time we go out.
For a child like Gage, a wheelchair is not just a piece of equipment, it's actually an extension of his body, the way he moves through the world and interacts with it. For our family, a wheelchair van is a necessity that will enable us to continue to take Gage to appointments, school and therapies.
We have been very humbled to learn that a local church is going to help us with the purchase of a van, but we are still in need of $10,000 to finish paying the remaining balance.
