Wheelchair Van for Vallandigham
Donation protected
Meet Paul Vallandigham. Paul is in need of a Wheelchair Accessible Van to accommodate his new lifestyle that requires wheels instead of legs. In the middle of last year, his life screeched to a halt when he developed an epidural abscess that crushed his spine leaving him as a parapalgic. He underwent emergency surgery and remained in the hospital for weeks to be treated with antibiotics.
But wait, there’s more!
As if things weren’t bad enough, pressure sores on one of his legs became so badly infected it required him to have his lower leg amputated. He has been staying in skilled nursing facilities ever since this all began, and is looking to return to a more normal life. One that consists of living in his own home again, and being capable of getting around without the help of others.
Before all of this misfortune, Paul was an avid volunteer in his community which includes being a Commissioner on his County’s Behavioral Health Commission. He traveled, enjoyed good beers, was/is an orchid enthusiast, and was known to don a “fine hat” when the occasion called for one (which, when does it not?!).
He is also a veteran having served in the United States Air Force - thank you, sir, for your service.
Aside from having a wicked sense of humor (one that is still going strong, despite his current condition), this man is generous with his time and a great friend to have in your corner.
However, before his community can get their Paul back, he needs his own ride!
This is where we’re cashing in some of his good volunteer karma chips. Please do your own selfless volunteering through a donation. Whether it’s $5, $10, $100 or more, every little bit helps.
