If you've found your way here, you've probably come across one of my posts on social media or popped into my TikTok Livestream. But if you happened to find your way here by some other means, I'll do a quick little intro.

My name is Rose Finlay, I'm a quadriplegic single mom raising two young kids with disabilities. I became disabled in a pool accident at the age of 17. My youngest son has type one diabetes and my other son has ADHD.

Our current reality is quite grim.

We live in an area where it is incredibly challenging to get enough reliable personal care support. This is the foundation of everything we do as a family with so many extras. Not having reliable caregivers has compromised my health, as I suffer from recurrent kidney infections. This makes it impossible to earn an income which leaves me at the mercy of government assistance. Please also keep in mind that I can't meal prep, use the washroom or transfer into my wheelchair without assistance.

Unfortunately, the waitlist to obtain government disability support is 6 - 8 months!

...instead, disabled Ontarians who fall on hard times can choose MAiD (medical assistance in dying) with a waiting period of only 91 days!!

It's May 23rd today and there are only 36 days left in my 91 day waiting period.

Please understand that I do not want to end my life - I want to improve my quality of life back to a standard where my basic needs are met and I'm not at risk. Which is why I have started this GFM.

There are more resources available for both myself and my kids in the city. With access to proper support and a few things in place, I would be able to work and provide an income for my family despite my disability.

To make this move, we need financial support to make first/last, moving costs, medical equipment installation and legal costs for the family court.

I have always been ready and willing to jump in action when I see friends who need fundraising support and I'm praying now that the same kindness will be returned.
