Wheelchairs for Intensive Care Unit QA, Portsmouth
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Rob and very recently (June this year) I found myself in the Critical Care Unit (CCU) in Queen Alexandra (QA) hospital in Portsmouth, having contracted (somehow!) Weils disease, or Leptospirosis as it is also known.
Within 48 hours of being admitted to A&E I found myself (or so I was told afterwards!) in an induced coma with my kidneys and liver shutting down and both my lungs filled with blood. I was placed on life support and according to my wife and friends who witnessed it (obviously I was snoozing throughout!) I was given a less than 10% chance of survival.
I was fighting for my life against the disease for 4 days whilst the amazing, and I'll say that again, AMAZING, people at CCU worked tirelessly and diligently to keep me alive. They succeeded; I am only able to set up this page, type these words, raise these funds due to the wonderful and professional staff at the CCU in QA.
So what? Well, during my recovery I was lucky enough to be taken to the rose garden at QA to sit in the sunshine and get some fresh air, reflect on what had happened to me and start to process it. It became obvious that the log jam in the whole process was the battle the CCU staff had each day trying to find an appropriate wheel chair in the hospital. On one occasion no chair could be found and so I was wheeled out to the garden in my bed. Great for me but a hell of a job for the two nurses who took me!
The profile picture above shows you the type of wheel chair we are taking about, kinda!
I have therefore decided that the best way I can say thank you is to purchase 4 wheel chairs suitable for critical care patients, which can be kept in the CCU for the exclusive use of patients in that unit.
Conscious that there is a huge amount of good work and effort on GoFundMe already raising funds for a wide range of worthy causes, I would be hugely grateful if you would put your hands in your pockets and donate to what I hope you agree is a cause worth your support. Any amount you can donate will go towards helping make the life of the staff and patients in CCU at QA in Portsmouth just that little bit easier.
Thank you for reading folks,
Best wishes to all,
Rob
