Wheels for Eden

On October 4, 2021 our family endured a tragedy that changed everyone of our lives forever. At 3 months old, before her life even really started, Eden Neal’s life was stolen from her. Eden and Ivey who are twin sisters were with their mother at their biological father’s home when their Nana (Teresa Neal) received a call that nightmares are made of. Teresa rushed to pick the girl’s and their mom up to take them to the hospital. Upon arrival, it was abundantly clear to Teresa, a nurse of decades, something terrible had taken place. The pediatric ER confirmed that both babies were victims of child abuse, specifically Shaken Baby Syndrome. Ivey suffered a lacerated liver but was fortunately able to recover. Eden’s injuries were devastatingly more severe. She suffered brain damage, breaks in 3 places in her legs, and a lacerated liver. Their abuser was identified as their father who is currently serving a 27 year sentence in prison which is minuscule to Eden’s life sentence of being blind, loss of 50% of brain function, inability to eat, walk, or talk. Eden has 6 types of therapy weekly in hopes of reaching her best potential. Both girls have been adopted by their maternal grandparents, Teresa and Keith Neal. While their Nana and Pawpaw are willing to protect t these girls at all costs and do whatever it takes to give them a chance at the life they deserve, life has not gotten any easier and the fight continues. Teresa has since been diagnosed with a stress triggered illness known as Myasthenia Gravis which causes debilitating weakness due to lack of communication between nerves and muscles. Added to this all, Teresa was laid off unexpectedly in 2023 after over a decade of service. How can you help? The Neal family desperately needs a handicap accessible vehicle to ease the growing difficulty of transporting Eden to get various appointments and therapies. Eden will never have the life that she deserves. She will never see the faces of her loved ones, or ever be able to express how she feels. She continues to grow, but is unable to move on her own. The only chance she has to have any bit of development is to continue care.
