Wheels for Jannie

I am Jannie and this is my story.
Approximately 20,800+ people are living with some form of a spinal cord injury in Australia and in 2020 in a small town in Ulverstone I was one of them.
Where I fell out of a Ute and in a split second my life changed drastically making me a C2 ventilated dependant quadriplegic.
I was just a young 20 year old with my life ahead of me.
I was flown to Melbourne where I was isolated for 6 months from seeing anyone other than doctors, nurses and the four walls of hospitals due to covid.
I spent a total of 16 months.
10 months in Melbourne, 6 months in Tasmania.
Which calculates to 420 days in hospital.
In this time I battled depression, anxiety and intense rehab. I had to learn how to speak again and to accept the harsh reality that this is my life forever.
I missed out on birthdays, new years, Christmas and much more.
I got out of hospital and the reality set in that this is my life permanently. What do I do now? Where do I go from here?
I had to rely on taxis for the smallest of errands such as going to the supermarket and as good as some of the taxi services were to me, I wasn’t able to get out and live my life as “normal” as possible. There was also a time where I was left in the cold winter nights of Tasmania for 3.5 hours.
Being so limited to “normal life” and social activities played on my mental health and I felt a deep depression that quickly became my reality.
Having my own van would give me a purpose and my independence back and to be able to achieve my goal of travelling Tasmania.
I am looking at doing motivational speaking to raise awareness when it comes to spinal cord injuries at schools and to start work, so having a vehicle will allow me to travel and to achieve this goal.
It would also give me the ability to get out and live my life, doing the simple day to day activities.
I would love for everyone to attend Wheels for Jannie Cocktail Party Fundraiser hosted by the Rotary Club of Ulverstone and myself at the wharf Ulverstone on the 11th of November, 6:30pm - 11pm.
With a ticket price of $30 comes a live DJ, food and much more.

All proceeds will go towards the purchase of a van for myself. Every little bit helps.
Thank you so much.
