Hi, my name is Bill Martin. As many of my friends know I was in a horrible accident on October 20, 2018. The accident took my wife from me along with my ability to walk. (https://www.wisn.com/article/woman-killed-her-husband-injured-when-tree-falls-on-suv/24069139 ; https://www.fox6now.com/news/miss-my-wife-every-day-sole-survivor-speaks-out-5-months-after-tree-fell-onto-suv ) Consequently, I have been unable to perform what I consider is my calling in life, that is, teaching Mathematics. After a long hard road, that isn’t done with by any means, I am now able to do many things on my own. I have many people to thank… first and foremost thank you to everyone who is praying for me. I want to use my current abilities to get back to teaching. Which leads me to this go fund me page.
I am primarily in a power chair for my mobility and walking shorter distances with a walker. I have to schedule my transportation everywhere and pay for each ride. My goal is to get back to driving so I have the independence to go where I need to including going back to work. The Department of Vocational Rehab can help me pay for adaptations for a vehicle (hand controls) but I need a van that they can adapt and that my powerchair can fit in. Unfortunately, I don't have excess funds to purchase a van and my lawsuit against the township that put me in this situation did not go in my favor. I'm also looking into grants or other options to help me reach this goal.
I wish to purchase a van that can be altered to my needs. This will allow me to get back-and-forth to work and therapy. Therefore I have come up with a goal of $75,000 that will be used to purchase such a van. Whatever you can give is appreciated. If there are any additional funds they will be put toward my continued therapy or home adaptations.
