Where There’s Will There’s a Way - Dad’s Cancer Journey

Donation protected

Hey everyone, we're reaching out to you with heavy hearts and hopeful spirits. Our beloved dad, William (Will to most), has recently been diagnosed with two forms of blood cancer CLL and SLL. This unexpected news has shaken our family to its core, but we're determined to stand strong together and support him in every possible way.

To know Will (Dad) is to love him. He is a rock in our family – a loving husband, a devoted father, a wonderful papa, silly, adventurous, and intentional in all that he does. He is a friend, colleague and mentor. Dad is always keen to share his craftsmanship, knowledge, and experiences with his family, and now sharing the same with his nearly 7 grandkids. Outside the home Dad has touched many lives through his nineteen plus years of service at Camp Arnes, leaving a lasting impact on youth, staff, and the organization.

Through our lives Dad has taught us the importance of family and friends, to have patience, persevere, and to always listen, living by the simple adage “all things in stride, one step at a time”. He has taught there is strength in asking for help. It is this taught patience and perseverance that we need muster as we navigate this challenging time and as we ask all of you for your help.

In the Fall of 2023, Dad believed that he had strep throat or tonsillitis. After a number of tests it was determined dad has Chronic Lymphocytic Lymphoma and Small Lymphocytic Leukaemia. Dad begins treatment on Tuesday May 7th 2024. His medical team is preparing him for intense treatment both physically and mentally. We are hopeful that this treatment will allow dad to enter remission and live symptom free for many years!

As many of you know, cancer treatment can be physically, emotionally, and financially draining. Despite facing this uphill battle, we remain optimistic as dad continues the fight. We have been informed that he will need to stop working for 6 months-1 year+. With this the costs associated with medical bills, mortgage, treatments, gas, parking, counseling, groceries and other unforeseen expenses it can all add up quickly. It is our wish that through the support of our community we can ease this burden so dad can worry less and spend more time healing. Due to dad’s treatment and cancer he will be severely immunocompromised. This presents another hurdle for our family as mom works in a healthcare setting and will also need to take time off to ensure she keeps dad safe and can help take care of him, drive him to and from appointments and be present in the process.

In this light we humbly ask for your support in easing the financial burden on our mom and dad. We are aware that life is expensive these days and so, every donation, no matter how big or small, will make a meaningful difference in our dads journey towards healing. Your generosity will not only help alleviate the financial strain but will also provide dad with the peace of mind to focus on what truly matters – his health and his loved ones. Whether it's a donation, a kind message, a meal, a prayer, or simply sharing this campaign with your network, every bit of support is deeply appreciated.

Together, we can help our dad fight this battle and emerge stronger on the other side. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for standing by our family during this challenging time. One thing we know for sure is, it takes a village.

Thank you for being a part of ours,
The Wear Family

If you wish to still give to mom and dad but not use the GoFund Me platform we have attached their mailing address to the bottom of the campaign or you can reach out to any one of the Wear Kids or Shaun! Thanks!
