Mark Avery’s family needs your help!

Mark passed away on February 13, 2023 in Charlottesville, VA. Our family is grateful to know that Mark is finally at peace.

We thank Mark’s medical team at the UVA Medical Center, the Emily Couric Cancer Center, Hospice of the Piedmont and the many nurses and CNA’s and who helped care for Mark.

We also want to thank those who visited Mark, especially his former college roommates who traveled to Virginia to see him for the first time since 1977.  It was a wonderful “reunion” and we are grateful for their time and effort. We also appreciate those who played music for him while he was at the nursing home and his former radio listeners who sent cards and emails.

Mark was diagnosed with metastatic cancer while he was being treated for progressive dementia.  Cancer lesions in his spine caused him to become paralyzed.

Mark’s life long joy was being part of the WHFS Family in the early 1980’s as one of the on-air DJ’s at the uniquely progressive ‘HFS studio in Bethesda, MD and then later in Annapolis.  When Mark was not on the air he was a permanent fixture and old school “Gym Rat” at Gold’s Gym.

In lieu of flowers please plant a tree, make a donation to your favorite charity or visit the Go Fund Me account to help pay for Mark’s outstanding medical bills.
A formal obituary can be found on Facebook.  We elected to not put it in the newspaper due to the cost.  Many thanks from the Avery Family.
