Mossley Whit Friday Band Contest – hosted by Mossley AFC

The iconic and internationally renowned Whit Friday Band Contest has been part of the fabric of Mossley for over 130 years. The contest is held in such regard that more than one hundred brass bands travel from all over the world to perform in the local area.

This year’s contest is due to be held on Friday 2 June 2023.

Often described as 'the greatest free show on earth', in recent years we’ve hosted the Mossley contest at Seel Park. If we hadn’t, like many others, it would have disappeared.

The contest is organised by volunteers but we can’t run it without help from the people of Mossley and the surrounding areas.

Hosting the contest including running costs and prize money is at least £8,000.
