Who Killed Ann?

The family and friends of slain Indiana University student Ann Harmeier are raising money to create a reward fund to solve her brutal rape and murder committed 45 years ago.
Ann was an amazing person who made an indelible mark on everyone who knew her and made all of our lives brighter. Dubbed “Everyone’s Daughter” by the media, she was known for her kindness and had a passion for helping others and believing the best in everyone.
Ann was a 20-year-old an honor student majoring in theater and entering her junior year at IU shortly before her death. After spending a weekend at home, Ann set off to return to Bloomington on the morning of Sept. 12, 1977.
But her car overheated and she was forced to pull over on Route 37 just south of Indianapolis about two miles north of Martinsville and about 22 miles outside of Bloomington around 9:30 a.m. She was not heard from again.
Ann’s body was discovered five weeks later by a farmer who was cutting down his crops a few miles away from where her vehicle had stalled. She had been raped and died from asphyxiation with the killer using her shoelace to strangle her and her hairbrush to tighten it around her neck.
Despite national attention and effort to find her killer, in addition to a number of leads, no arrests were ever made in the case. Law enforcement had maintained that Steven Judy was responsible, but records later revealed that he was incarcerated on an unrelated charge at the time of Ann’s death.
No DNA match has been made, but we are hopeful that forensic advances will lead to a break in the case. Meanwhile, we have recently unearthed new details about the case and new leads are being pursued. Our greatest hope is that someone will come forward with new information that will eventually solve the murder and finally get justice for Ann!
