WHS Class of 2010 Fundraiser for Lunch Fees
Donation protected
Hello Whitehall High School Class of 2010,
We are unfortunately cancelling our ten year reunion this summer for everyone's safety during the pandemic. However, in lieu of a reunion we are fundraising money to support current students at our alma mater.
As of May 12, 2020 the school lunch debt for students in Whitehall Schools totals $2,776.46. For those who do not qualify for a reduced lunch, the cost is $2 for breakfast and $3 for lunch. This means that at ~20 school days per month, families pay up to $100 per child each month. One child, who eats both meals at school every school day, incurs $900 in meal charges in a year. If families do not pay their lunch fees, graduating students have diplomas withheld and the school has to eat the cost while already on a tight budget.
Given the current economic crisis, especially for many Whitehall parents who work in the service industry, families who maybe once could have paid lunch fees are now channeling reduced resources towards other needs.
We understand that not everyone may be in a position to donate. However, if you are, please consider donating the amount you would have spent to attend the ten year reunion ($40 registration, gas, airplane ticket, etc.). Every dollar will help local families by taking this worry off their plate and will help stabilize Whitehall Schools' budget. We also welcome donations from anyone who may not be in the class of 2010, but would like to contribute!
We hope to raise this money by June 4th, the last day of school, to ensure that families can go into their summer worry-free and that graduating seniors with school lunch debt will not have their diplomas withheld.
Feel free to reach out to us with any questions!
Sincerely,
Amy Reavis, Kellee Glaus, Helen Hobbs, Travis Volz & Kayla Leverton
