Widowed Female Afghan Soldier Needs Help

Hi my name is Giada and my Afghan sister, Khatera and her 2 children were evacuated from Afghanistan during the US withdrawal and Taliban take over. Khatera bravely and honorably served as a female soldier in The Afghan National Army, specifically with Special

Forces. Due to her service with the Afghan Ministry of Defense along with her ethnic background as a Hazara ( a largely persecuted group in Afghanistan) she was forced to flee her country to avoid persecution. In addition to her selfless service to her country, Khatera also served closely alongside American service members, conducting night raids and serving as an integral part of every mission in a cultural support role, conducting searching and questioning of females on target.

Khatera and her children have resettled in the US but as a single mother of 2 school aged children she is in dire need of additional support. Living in a large city, she desperately needs a vehicle to get to and from work in a timely and efficient way. Khatera takes the bus 2 hours everyday to go to work, only to take it 2, sometimes 3 hours, back home, all to only see her children for a small amount of time and barely cover her bills. I understand this is an issue many are facing now, but in addition to this, Khatera is faced with the trauma and burden of leaving her home, losing her spouse, worrying for her mother, father and other family’s safety. It is a lot to bear on top of the daily struggles alive and present in everyday life.

Our allies deserves better this. Please consider helping us to support her and set her and family up for a successful new beginning here.

For background: I met Khatera in 2016 as we were working with cultural support teams for special forces. She is an intelligent, caring, and funny woman who has the heart of a lion.
