UPDATE 1/31/24: Wilbur's 1st surgery went GREAT!! However, he has a long road of recovery ahead, just to gear up for surgery #2. Please consider helping to alleviate the financial burden on Krissie and Wes so that they can focus on Wilbur's recovery

UPDATE 1/6/24: Wilbur's 1st surgery is scheduled for Friday, January 31st!
In early 2023, Krissie walked into Cherryland Humane Society and her life, and heart, would never be the same. It was there she met Wilbur, the previously homeless pup who was looking for a second chance. It was evident from the start that there was something special about him and they knew they wanted to spread his love, and light, with others. Krissie and her family sacrificed countless hours to get him the training and exposure needed to officially become a licensed therapy dog. From there, Krissie was able to bring him to work, as Westwood Elementary's very own therapy dog and library assistant. It was no surprise that Wilbur's impact with hundreds of young learners was just as profound as with his own family. He provides comfort, love, and kisses to students and staff alike, making the culture at this school one of calm and compassion. With all he has given to others, day in and day out, it is Wilbur, now, who needs us.
Wilbur is in need of a prompt TPLO (tibial plateau leveling osteotomy) to stabilize his knee joint after a cranial cruciate ligament injury. This procedure involves cutting and rotating the top of the shin bone to stabilize the joint with a plate and screws. Sadly, after fixing his more severe right knee, his left knee will also need this procedure.
We have no doubt that throughout his recovery he will receive no shortage of cuddles, love, and treats, from his family at both home and school. However, we don't want this financial burden to fall solely on the family when they have sacrificed and shared this incredible boy with the world. We are hoping to raise the funds necessary to provide Wilbur with these critical surgeries and get him back in school where he can continue to make a lasting impact on all those who are lucky enough to know him.
