Far West NSW Fresh Fruit & Veggie Covid-19
Hi,
My names Taunoa Bugmy I’m a Wilyakali Woman From Broken Hill.
My fathers family are from Wilcannia 2836, his a barkintji man. Are you aware that Wilcannias life expectancy is a dramatic 30 years less then the average Non-Indigenous people of Australia. Alarming right, yeah I’ve lost plenty of family way before their time to chronic diseases.
Well unfortunately last week an outbreak of Covid-19(Coronavirus) ventured to wilcannia and to date there are 18 identified positive cases and only creeping. This is a community disaster, our people might be strong in spirituality but physically this will really test the strength and resilience of our people.
Wilcannia also endures many other battles such as overcrowding, AOD addictions and minimum wages. They are only just getting over issues such as water supply because the Barka/Darling River was dry.
Ivanhoe much the same and recently their store was identified as a close contact place and now closed for community. Leaving them with no store.
Well we have to decided to help start raising fund for food stocks and other necessities each household may need, prioritising those families testing positive with Covid-19. To date we have raised some funds to send over meat and other basic necessities to get them through until the week, the army have been given out boxes of food from pallets but that needs to be shared among three remote communities and won’t last.
We plan to have a certain kitty with set amounts per case, per family/household so meat packs and fresh fruit/veggie boxes sent over for them.
If you can help in anyway it will go along way to take care of these families.
Any donation is a blessing.
