Wild Swimming Cornwall's campaign for Mind (NAMH)
Mental Health Awareness Week runs from 4th to 11th October 2020.
We've decided to launch our #selfcareswims campaign during October to try and raise money for Mind UK. We'd like to ask you to help us by completing the challenge and having a bit of fun, all whilst investing in your own self-care!
With over one in four people experiencing a mental health problem in the UK, the need for good quality mental health support, advice and information is vital.
Wild swimming awakens the part of us that is still in touch with the natural world and the part of us that is deeply connected to water. When we immerse ourselves it has the power to reset our bodies and minds, allowing us to forget everyday worries and struggles. We emerge stronger; refreshed and ready to embrace whatever life has to throw at us.
Submerging your body in cold water provides numerous benefits to both our psychological and physical health, through reducing the body's stress response. It leads to improved mindfulness, an increased release of dopamine (happy chemicals), builds confidence and connects us to nature.
Studies also show that it boosts immunity, metabolism, fitness and circulation. This means that not only does it make us mentally and physically stronger, but also that the body feels less physical pain.
Our aim is to raise £400 by getting 100 of you involved. If we can raise more than that and introduce some new people to wild swimming in the process that would be a bonus!
The #selfcareswims challenge:
1. Go for a wild swim
2. Post the swims to your social media using the #selfcareswims hashtag and tag four friends to nominate them (don't forget to tag @wildswimmingcornwall on Facebook and Instagram)
3. Donate £4 to Mind UK via this fundraiser.
Please spread the word and help us to support the community.

SWIM RESPONSIBILITY STATEMENT
Wildswimmingcornwall.co.uk, Kelp Studios and companies and persons supporting wildswimming.co.uk are unable to assume any legal responsibility for swimmers.
Whilst we are passionate in sharing our love for outdoor swimming and its benefits, all persons partaking in swimming must be solely responsible for making their own risk assessments before partaking in any swim. We have provided some guidance on swimming health and safety, however this is not exhaustive and the decision to swim must not depend either partially or wholly on this information. Conditions change and abilities vary, and the associated risks of swim spots change over time. By swimming outdoors you are at heightened risk of injury and harm, including cold water shock, hypothermia, drowning, sickness and injury (for example, from wildlife, other swimmers, underwater debris, water pollution and more).
Wildswimmingcornwall.co.uk and Kelp Studios do not have any insurance in place. The decision to take part in outdoor swimming must be taken individually and must not depend either partially or wholly on the information provided on this website or any of our other communication channels.
When making the decision to swim, it is crucial to know your limits. If you are in any doubt about the safety of a swim or your ability to complete it, you should refrain from entering the water.
Individuals acting on behalf of wildswimmingcornwall.co.uk and Kelp Studios, any persons supporting them or involved exclude, to the maximum extent permitted by law, any liability for personal injury, death or other harm or loss to any person or organisation as a result of a breach of legal duty or negligence.
