Wildflower Relief Fund for Patrick McCarthy & Family

Team Mozart's is asking for your help. Many of you know Patrick from the beloved McCarthy’s Wildflower Café on Indianola Avenue, which closed in 2021 after more than 20 years serving our community. What you may not know is the tremendous impact Patrick had on Clintonville. His business not only offered residents a place to enjoy great food and gather with family, Patrick was also a strong supporter of our neighborhood schools, community organizations and fundraisers.

I’ve known Patrick for many years. The first time the Clintonville 4th of July breakfast came to a point of crisis, I reached out to him and he immediately got on board to help revive the breakfast. Another memory that has always stayed with me was June 2012 when much of Clintonville, Mozart’s included, lost power for several days. Patrick stood by my side in Mozart’s kitchen to help me prepare, cook and serve schnitzel despite the challenging circumstances. I will always be grateful. Now for a fun fact- shortly after the power came back on, Wildflower Café began serving schnitzel : )

I’ve kept in touch with Patrick, who now lives with his family in Asheville, North Carolina. Their city and community have been devastated by the recent floods in the wake of Hurricane Helene, and his family is facing a dire and daunting situation. When I spoke with Patrick to find out how he was doing, he brushed off his own hardships, talking instead about preparing sandwiches and meals to help feed his neighbors in need. He and his family continue to go above and beyond, helping collect and distribute donated food, diapers, and other necessities.

Patrick is a true hero- genuinely kind, humble and generous. Time and again, Patrick has stepped up for his community, first here in his native Clintonville and how in Asheville. Now it's our turn - let’s come together to support Patrick and his family during this time of need.
