See our segment on Global News Calgary Hello, we are the Wilhelm family. My name is Kara and my husbands name is Rick, together we have a beautiful daughter named Charlotte.

 

After Rick underwent a vasectomy reversal surgery back in 2018, we were given a 25% or less chance of conceiving, and by some amazing miracle, Charlotte joined our family! We were so blessed!

 

We knew when we got married in 2013 that we wanted a house full of babies. I myself, used to dream of having babies when I was just a child myself. I would line up all my dolls, and care for them as if they were real babies. I would also stay awake late at night writing out lists of baby names in hopes that some day I would get to use most of them.

 

Rick absolutely adores his little Daddy’s girl, and couldn’t imagine life without her! They are the best of friends and it’s the most amazing thing to watch the two of them play. He wants more than anything to give Charlotte siblings. Watching her grow and discover her personality has been the most amazing experience of our lifetime and we would love to hear the laughter ring through the house of our children playing together and making memories. Charlotte is amazing with all of our friends babies and she truly deserves a shot to be the amazing big sister we know she would be.

 

This is extremely hard to open up about, but this is our truth. We have been trying for 2 years to give Charlotte siblings. After trying and heartbreakingly failing for quite some time, we’ve finally been told that Rick has scar tissue from the vasectomy reversal surgery that won’t allow sperm to pass. We have less than a 20% chance of conceiving naturally and we are now looking at needing medical intervention in the form of IVF treatments to grow our family.

 

The embarrassing issue is, we cannot afford the astronomical costs on our own and time is not on our side as Rick and I are both only getting older and need to do everything we can as soon as possible. I have been selling houseplant clipping, seedling and crochet projects to fundraise, but it’s not enough. So we are asking for some help.

 

Rick and I both grew up with a sibling and we are very grateful for it and wish the same experience for our daughter Charlotte. She deserves to be a big sister and we definitely don’t want her to grow up all alone and wish we had the power to change the facts, but we simply can’t.
