Wilhelm Thiel's Medical Expenses

Donation protected
Hi everyone.

My name is Peyton Thiel from Meriden, CT and I am organizing this on behalf of my father, Willie, and my family.

Starting around Wednesday, September 6th 2023, my dad became very ill. At first, everyone thought nothing of it, that it was just a stomach bug or food poisoning and it will soon pass. Little did we know, it would get much worse and eventually lead to one of the scariest events in our lives. The following night, he became dazed and confused. His blood pressure was dangerously low and his heart rate was high. We were about to drive him to the hospital but as soon as we found out he was breathing hard and had completely lost his vision, I knew I needed call an ambulance.

Once he got to the ER at MidState Medical Center in Meriden, CT, he was already in really bad shape. They did some tests and all the labs came back critical. They found out he had severe complications due to Diabetic Ketoacidosis. Already on multiple IVs, his body couldn’t keep up, and eventually his heart weakened and went into cardiac arrest. We were brought to the family consultation room, where then we knew the only thing we could do is pray. It was then, I began to prepare myself for the worst.

Thankfully, he was resuscitated quickly and the doctors did everything they could the keep him alive. We were called from the family room to find them preparing him to be airlifted by Life Star to Yale New Haven Hospital to receive the care he needs.

Very early in the morning after a night of no sleep, we made our way down to the YNHH Intensive Care Unit where we saw him intubated in critical condition, with about twelve different IVs, and on dialysis. He spent over a week in the ICU under constant watch.

Miraculously, he made incredible progress. With the help of the best medical professionals in the state, he kept fighting for his life and eventually was in good enough shape to be transferred out of the ICU into Heart and Vascular.

Now, at just about two whole weeks in the hospital, his journey back to full health is still not over. With infections that are currently being treated, and the discovery of major blockages in his heart, he is currently awaiting the word from the cardio team about a likely heart procedure. He is not out of the woods yet, but with the love and support he has gotten so far, he will continue to fight.

Before this all happened, my dad was very active in the community, helping coach the Meriden American Legion baseball team long after I played my last year in 2021. He is a devoted Survey Technician at BL Companies, and of course a loving father.

Lastly, I want to give an endless thank you to the Doctors, Nurses, and everyone who helped save his life in the MidState Medical Center ER. Additionally, an endless thank you to all of the Doctors, Nurses, PCAs, and anyone else at Yale New Haven Hospital that helped him make this unbelievable comeback.

From the ambulance, air transport, intensive care, and several procedures, we are almost certain that there will be substantial medical expenses even with insurance. With your generosity, we can minimize some of the damage so he is able to get back on his feet where he was before as soon as possible.

I completely understand that not everyone is able to donate, so if you are able to share this with anyone you can, it would mean the world to my dad, my family and I. With your help and your prayers, my father will surely continue to overcome this troubling time. If you’ve made it this far, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
