Help Josh Wilkinson beat cancer AGAIN!
Josh Wilkinson had undergone cancer treatment five years and 11 months ago for Medulloblastoma, a rare form of brain cancer usually found in children. He kicked cancer’s butt and had been cancer free until June 2022, when the hammer dropped again. A routine brain scan showed that the tumor had returned to the same location. He underwent brain surgery in July 2022 to remove the tumor and completed gamma knife radiation in August 2022. However, it is now necessary for Josh to receive chemotherapy. His oncology team and neuro-oncology specialists from Johns Hopkins Hospital have mapped a treatment plan requiring him to receive chemo for at least six months. He was hoping to work between chemo treatments but recently learned that this is not an option, and he will have to remain at home for the duration of his treatments and recovery. This will place financial hardship on the family. His doctor appointments and treatments will take place in Pittsburgh and Wexford, PA, which are approximately 55 – 70 miles from home (one way). Due to the rare nature of his cancer, he cannot get treatment locally as the brain cancer specialists do not travel north of Wexford. His disability pay is only a portion of his regular income and will not cover household expenses, wood pellets to heat the house for the winter, gas to get to & from treatments, and food during his travels.
Josh has been a contributor to his local community for many years. He has been a Reynolds Varsity Football Program coach for approximately 14 years. He was previously the President of the Reynolds Little League Program for several years. Josh’s wife, Anna, is also involved in the community as a member of the Reynolds Gridiron Club for approximately seven years, President for the last two years. They have two children, Kolton and Kenzie, who are honor roll students and actively involved in athletics and school activities within the district.
Josh is currently employed as an instructor at a state prison facility. He teaches inmates the trade of masonry skills. Josh has assisted numerous inmates in obtaining their high school equivalency diplomas and becoming certified in the area of the masonry trades to obtain employment upon release from prison.
While the Wilkinson family is not one to ask for help, they have found themselves in a position to need assistance during this difficult time. They are still paying medical debt from Josh’s previous surgery and treatment in 2016. Due to Josh’s inability to work as he would like, the family finds themselves in need of assistance.
