Will Snipes Jr. - Ten Years Old, Kidney Failure
Donation protected
Our son, Will Snipes Jr., has faced more challenges in his ten years than most will ever see in a lifetime. Born 3 months premature weighing under 2-1/2 pounds, he was diagnosed shortly after with a brain hemorrhage, respiratory distress syndrome, and most seriously, Joubert syndrome, a rare genetic condition which limits his speech and mobility and is also associated with increased risk of kidney disease. For all of his difficulties, he remains a happy and friendly boy whose smile lights up the lives of those close to him. Will is happiest when he’s spending time with his sister Madison, or playing with his little dogs, CiCi and Bacon.
He now faces his greatest challenge yet. A routine doctor visit on October 29 involved a pin prick blood test for anemia, then an emergency room blood draw, then something no parent could ever be prepared for, a diagnosis of kidney failure. He will ultimately require a kidney transplant, with constant dialysis treatment in the meantime.
Will has no insurance and doesn’t qualify for Medicaid or CHIP. His recent diagnosis qualifies him for Medicare, but there will be a considerable delay before that will begin and even then it will only pay 80 percent.
We will enroll in a healthcare plan as soon as possible which will take effect in January 2021, and the hospital and dialysis clinic have very graciously offered a considerable discount. But with the very high cost of his ICU stay, dialysis, and specialists, even after Medicare, discounts, and insurance payments, our portion will still far exceed what we can afford. And this is without consideration of the transplant itself, which will incur astronomical costs as well as require lifelong medication at great expense. Sadly, proof of ability to pay is often a requirement to be considered for a transplant.
Please help us in the time of our greatest need. Please give whatever you can, to help our sweet boy try to return to a somewhat normal life. You can donate using whatever method you're comfortable with:
