A lot of friends and family have been wanting an update on our dad’s condition since he contracted Covid 19 in July of 2020. He required life support for an extended time while trying to fight the virus. During that time he had two strokes which were complications from Covid. He remained in a coma for months.

In September we ran out of options with hospitals and we were forced to make a decision. He could not yet tolerate 3 hours of intense therapy in a rehab facility so a nursing home was suggested. There would be no visitors allowed.  Anyone who knows our dad knows he would not heal the same without the tremendous support from his fiancé, Fanny, his family and friends at his side so we brought him home. We had to get all the equipment needed and a 24-7 private nursing staff set up that Medicare or his supplemental insurance would not cover for his long term care needs.

The insurance only covered physical and occupational therapy a few days a week but was only for a short period of time, which was not enough to get him on his feet. At that time we decided to hire our own private physical therapists.  We have also found some amazing resources and have been exploring some non-traditional treatment and therapy options that are not covered by any insurance. They sound very promising  and seem to be helping to speed up his recovery so we are hoping to be able to continue these. One of the therapies is requiring twice a day, very costly appointments. We have also had to get the proper medical transportation to get him to and from these appointments. We are doing everything we know to get him back on his feet and doing the things he loved to do like golfing, fishing, hunting and being with his friends and family.

Our family would like to thank everyone for their continued support, get well wishes, calls and concerns. Our dad is very blessed to have so many wonderful people in his life.  Many people have inquired if there is anything they could do to help, so we wanted to let everyone know that we have opened up a donation page that could help him with some of his out of pocket expenses, to continue the costly therapies and treatments, 24/7 private nursing aids and daily transportation needed for his long-term recovery.

If anybody has loved ones that may benefit from his story or some of the resources we have found please let us know and we would be more than happy to share any helpful information. It has been a long road so far but we will never quit fighting!
